The YMCA of San Angelo is excited to offer new homeschool classes in graphic design, shoutcasting, and language arts with the recent opening of their Esports lounge. Students will have the opportunity to learn marketable skills in the growing world of esports.

Class Descriptions:

Graphic Design:

15 hour course built around the functional understanding and use of the GNU Image Manipulation Program (GIMP) software. This is a free and open-source graphics editor used for image manipulation, retouching, image editing, free-form drawing, and transcoding of different file formats. The core of the course will focus on original designs created from unique user input coupled with existing images. Imagine being able to take multiple photos of family members (and pets) and merging them together into a single photo with the backdrop of your own design. This is the skill set to be taught through this class.

Shoutcasting:

15-hour course designed to develop gateway skills into broadcasting of live esports events. This course focuses on play-by-play announcing and color commentary much as you might expect from a broadcast journalism course. By the end of the 5 weeks, students will be comfortable self-calling live tutorials all the way through the announcing of real-time, multiteam events. We will cover how to use voice inflection, tone, pitch, etc to capture an audiences attention. Students will also become efficient in determining how to best tell the audience the story of the event in a factual, non-opinionated or judgmental manner.
