Position Title: Aquatics Director
Status:Full-Time
Location: YMCA of San Angelo
Reports To: Physical Director

Overview

The Aquatics Director is responsible for the leadership, safety, and successful operation of all aquatic programs and facilities. This role oversees lifeguard staff, swim instructors, scheduling, training, and ensures compliance with all local, state, and national aquatics standards. The Aquatics Director plays a key role in creating a safe, welcoming, and mission‑driven environment for members of all ages.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage all aquatics operations, including pool maintenance, staffing, scheduling, and program development.

  • Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate lifeguards and aquatics staff.

  • Ensure strict adherence to safety protocols, emergency procedures, and risk‑management standards.

  • Oversee swim lesson programs, water fitness classes, and special aquatics events.

  • Maintain accurate records for certifications, incident reports, chemical logs, and inspections.

  • Collaborate with leadership to develop budgets, program goals, and community outreach initiatives.

  • Provide exceptional customer service and maintain positive member relationships.

Qualifications

  • Minimum age 21.

  • Current Lifeguard Certification required; Lifeguard Instructor and CPR/AED/First Aid preferred.

  • Experience supervising staff in an aquatics or recreation environment.

  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends as needed.

 🌅 Morning Lifeguard — Job Posting

  • Position Title: Morning Lifeguard
    Status: Part-Time
    Shift: Early Morning (e.g., 5:00 AM – 10:00 AM, 10:00 AM - 2:00PM) shifts are flexible
    Location: YMCA of San Angelo
    Reports To: Aquatics Director

    Overview

    We are seeking a reliable and attentive Morning Lifeguard to ensure the safety of members during early operating hours. This position is perfect for individuals who enjoy starting their day early and contributing to a positive, welcoming environment.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Maintain constant surveillance of the pool and surrounding areas.

    • Enforce all aquatic rules and safety guidelines.

    • Respond to emergencies quickly and effectively.

    • Perform opening duties including pool deck setup, chemical testing, and safety inspections.

    • Provide friendly, professional customer service to members.

    • Support swim lessons or aquatic classes as needed.

    Qualifications

    • Minimum age 16.

    • Current Lifeguard Certification required; CPR/AED/First Aid certified.

    • Strong attention to detail and ability to stay alert.

    • Dependable and punctual — early morning reliability is essential.

    • Positive attitude and commitment to member safety.


  • Preschool Teacher - Part-Time
  • A Preschool Teacher is someone who leads, guides, and grows youth to better our community. This position supports the work of the San Angelo YMCA, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. As a preschool teacher, you are responsible for supervision of a group of up to 12 children between the ages of 3 and 5. The teacher must also direct activities for their group of children. Activities and supervision are regulated by YMCA policies and Department of Family and Protective Services child care licensing standards.

Shift times: 
Morning shift - 7:30 am - 1:30 pm  
Afternoon shift - 12:30 pm - 6:30 pm
